Hotels with a gym

These properties report a fitness centre. In a large chain hotel that usually means a proper room with cardio machines and free weights; in a smaller property it can be two machines in a converted bedroom. The amenity flag does not distinguish, so the photos and the facilities score on the hotel itself are what to go on.

Before you book, check

• Opening hours. Some gyms are staffed and close in the evening; others are open around the clock with a key card.
• Whether use is included or billed, particularly where the gym belongs to an attached spa.
• Whether there is any free-weight equipment if you need more than a treadmill.
• Whether a nearby public gym is available on a day pass, which is often better and cheaper.

Worth it for: Longer stays, business travel, and anyone whose training does not pause for a trip.
