Hotels with free parking

Properties reporting free parking on site. In a city centre this is one of the few amenities with a direct, measurable value: paid hotel parking in Amsterdam, Rome or Barcelona commonly runs from €20 to €45 a night, so a property with free spaces can be the cheaper option even at a higher room rate.

Before you book, check

• Whether spaces are guaranteed or first-come. "Free parking" with six spaces for forty rooms is a lottery you can lose at 22:00.
• Height restrictions, if you have a roof box, a van or a camper.
• Whether the car park is on the property or a few streets away.
• Whether the surrounding streets are inside a low-emission or restricted-traffic zone.

Worth it for: Road trips, family travel with luggage, and any city where street parking is metered around the clock.
